Welcome to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 27. We are a union with over 300 members which represents custodians, building maintenance, preventative maintenance, courier drivers, and a locksmith. Our members are located at over 80 buildings throughout Windsor and Essex County. CUPE 27 members take pride in the services they provide to the Greater Essex County District School Board. We share the common goal of community betterment through service. CUPE represents half a million public sector workers across Canada. Local 27 is also affiliated with the Ontario Federation of Labour, and CUPE Ontario Division.
A group of school board workers in Windsor organized to become CUPE Local 27 in 1943. In 1998 the Essex County School Board and the Windsor Board of Education were amalgamated to form the new Greater Essex County District School Board. This amalgamation saw the merging of both CUPE 27 and CUPE 1243 into the new CUPE Local 27. The new Local 27 drew on the experience of Local 1243, which was formed in 1969.
Our Union strives to become an active partner in our school communities. CUPE 27 donates to Breakfast Programs, school teams, local community sports teams, and various charities. Local 27 is a proud supporter of Earth Week activities.
